Nostalgia For You

The House · Dallas, Texas

About Nostalgia For You.

An independent fragrance house in Dallas, Texas, founded by Demetrius Hall. Fourteen numbered scents, every one an original, compounded by hand in small batches and typed onto the label the old way.

Why the house exists.

Nostalgia Line of Fragrances was founded to challenge convention and celebrate the extraordinary. The people it was built for are the ones who live life on their own terms: the dreamers and the doers, the artists and the innovators trying to pay rent with their passions while staying authentic. That is the whole brief. A support group for the independent, with bottles attached.

The name is also the premise. Scent is the sense that goes straight to memory, and every fragrance in the line is compounded to stir emotion and carry the wearer to another time and place. Some of them get there through wood and smoke, some through sugar and spice. None of them get there by copying a designer bottle.

The slogan is printed on every label: Find Value in Being RARE. The reversed letter reads wrong on purpose, which is more or less the house position on everything else too. There is a scent named for it, N°07 RARE, built on leather and tobacco sitting under violet leaf and jasmine sambac.

The founder.

Nostalgia was founded by Demetrius Hall, who still leads it. The through line in his work on the brand is a single idea: challenge the status quo, and find value in being rare. The fragrances are the argument, and the numbered line is how the argument is kept honest, one composition at a time.

The commitment goes past the juice in the bottle. Through the brand he sets out to spotlight the underground culture that inspires the work, sharing the stories, the art, and the passions that keep that community alive. It reads less like a product line and more like a way of living for people who refuse to blend in.

He also answers the mail. Questions about the line, an order, or a scent you have been trying to put into words all land in the same place, and you can write the lab directly.

How the fragrances are made.

Every fragrance in the line is compounded by hand. That is the production method rather than a garnish on the marketing. Batches stay small because they have to be: measured, mixed, and bottled at a bench, one run at a time. There is no contract factory behind the labels and no mass production.

Small batches buy freedom in the brief, and the line spends it. Pepper and cocoa in the same breath in N°06 REIGN. Seaweed at the tail of a citrus in N°08 L'Homme Sport. Dense white florals laid over leather in N°07. When a run is small, an unusual pairing is a decision instead of a committee fight.

The finishing is deliberate too. Labels are typed the old way, in French where the bottle asks for it: vaporisateur for the mists, huile de parfum for the oils. Each label carries the same line in type, best within 24 months after first use, so bottles are happiest stored upright and capped, away from sunlight, heat swings, and bathroom humidity.

What the numbers mean.

N°01 through N°14, in the order the house keeps them.

Every scent carries a number. The sequence is the house's own, the one used on the labels and in the catalog, so N°01 is where the line began and N°14 is the most recent arrival. The number is a place in a sequence, not a score, and it is the quickest way to talk about a scent without spelling the name.

Nine of the fourteen have published note lists, and each of those has a page of its own with the notes, the formats, and how the scent reads on skin. The five newest compositions are named but their notes are not published yet, so they appear below without a breakdown rather than with a guess.

How to choose one.

Nobody picks a fragrance off a screen. The way in is The Nostalgia Collective, the sample set, at $75.00. Square's own description says it holds eleven of the fragrances in sample size, so treat it as a wide pass across the line rather than the complete catalog. Wear them on skin across a few days, in the weather you actually live in, before committing to a full bottle.

Once you know which one is yours, there are three full sizes. The body mist is the lighter spray, built for everyday wear and re-application. The body parfum oil is richer, sits closer to the skin, and wears longer from less. Same scents, two strengths, so the choice is about how loud you want to be rather than which fragrance you get.

The Unisex, Homme, and Femme tags in the index describe which direction a scent leans, not who is allowed to wear it. Most of the line is unisex by design. Wear whatever smells right on you.
